Question About Peach Cobbler?

ok, i got Aretha Franklin%26#039;s recipe for peach cobbler. and it calls for TEN cans of 8.5 oz sliced peaches. but it only feeds 8 ppl. it doesn%26#039;t sound right. i%26#039;m gonna put the recipe below. DOES IT SOUND RIGHT??? i think the site made a mistake or something because that is 85 oz of peaches!!!! that is over 5 lbs. for 8 ppl!!! i read recipes that count for half this amount of peaches. is this just a very tall peach cobbler? like thick?





PEACH COBBLER (8 SERVINGS)





10 (8 1/2-ounce) cans sliced peaches, drained


2 sticks unsalted butter, divided, 1 stick cut into small pieces


1 cup sugar, plus 1/4 cup


1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


1/8 teaspoon grated nutmeg


1/2 cup plain bread crumbs


2 store bought refrigerated pie doughs


1/4 cup all-purpose flour


Canola oil spray


1 pint vanilla ice cream, for serving

peaches in cans have a lot of syrup


can of peaches is in fluid ounces not weight


peaches cook down tremendously


so follow the recipe it will be great





though 1 pint of ice cream won%26#039;t get the job done

It sounds correct, you can also use 5, 15 oz cans of drained peaches......the recipe is written for those small individual servings of peaches.......And the 8 servings must be the size of dinner plates and for very hungry dessert people....Enjoy!!!

This recipe is Paula Deen%26#039;s. It would easily serve 8 people. I make this at least 2-3 times a month. My husband will eat it all if I am not looking!





Peach Cobbler





4 cups peeled, sliced peaches


2 cups sugar, divided


1/2 cup water


8 tablespoons butter


1 1/2 cups self-rising flour


1 1/2 cups milk


Ground cinnamon, optional





Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.


Combine the peaches, 1 cup sugar, and water in a saucepan and mix well. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat.





Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and place in oven to melt.





Mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk slowly to prevent clumping. Pour mixture over melted butter. Do not stir. Spoon fruit on top, gently pouring in syrup. Sprinkle top with ground cinnamon, if using. Batter will rise to top during baking. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes.





To serve, scoop onto a plate and serve with your choice of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Reply:Yes, this sounds right, as you have to drain the peaches. since the syrup is part of the weight of the can, you will end up with about 3/4 C peaches per serving

YES, I think it probably is correct. See how few peaches you have once you%26#039;ve drained all the liquid out. And YES, I think those 8 servings are probably pretty generous.
Reply:no that sounds right peaches melt down to smaller pieces as for the 8 servings it should be about 10servings
